Only moderate decrease in sales revenues of 9,4 %

In the financial year 2008/2009, the Doppelmayr Holding AG was able to consolidate its position as world market leader on the ropeway market. Despite the difficult market situation, the sales revenues of EUR 616 m. lay only 9,4 % below the record-breaking result of the previous year. The number of employees increased by two percent to 2.660 worldwide. All in all, 138 ropeway projects were realized.

The global financial and economic crisis did not leave the ropeway industry untouched. Especially in Eastern Europe, Russia and North America the high turnovers of the previous year could not be maintained. In contrast, the markets in Western and Central Europe presented a stable development on a good level. The turnover of the Doppelmayr Group in the business year 2008/2009 was of EUR 616 m. This is a reduction of 9,4 % compared to the previous year. The number of employees increased by two percent to now 2,660 worldwide. The investments of the Group increased by approximately 11% to around EUR 31 m.

All in all, 138 ropeway projects worldwide were realized during the previous business year – including such spectacular installations like the world record-breaking lift "Peak 2 Peak" in Whistler Mountain or the world's highest passenger ropeway in China with the top station located at 4,846 m above sea level of. The leadership in innovation was confirmed by projects such as the world's first – authority approved – child-safe chairlift in Serfaus, Austria.

Besides the most important business field of ropeways for winter sports, the market segment of urban ropeways has established. In several cities in North Africa and South America ropeways were built as modern transport solutions for urban traffic.

Furthermore, a CABLE Liner Shuttle system by the subsidiary DCC Doppelmayr Cable Car was put into operation at the international airport in Mexico City. Two installations in Venice and Las Vegas are only short of their completion and further projects in Caracas, Venezuela and Doha, Qatar are on schedule.

30 years anniversary of the training workshop
With the opening of the training workshop in 1979 Doppelmayr became one of the first companies in Vorarlberg with its own training workshop. These years of experience combined with the utilization of the most modern training concepts offers our apprentices and trainees outstanding outlooks and chances for the future in a company operating worldwide. Numerous awards for Doppelmayr trainees confirm the path taken. At the moment, Doppelmayr is training 63 apprentices in Wolfurt.

Confidence for the future
The global financial and economic situation still impairs all sectors of the capital-goods industry. Although Doppelmayr is positioned well thanks to its range of products as well as the strategic direction, it is not possible to fully free oneself from this development. On the whole, Doppelmayr is well-equipped with its flexible, experienced and motivated employees. This makes Doppelmayr look forward with trust in the Group's strengths.
