On September 1, Doppelmayr welcomed 28 new apprentices to Wolfurt. For the 24 boys and 4 girls, the apprenticeships mark their entry into the world of work and the start of a promising career with the global market leader in ropeway construction. Numerous long-standing employees started out on the same path many years ago. Two long-service award holders who began their apprenticeships at Doppelmayr 25 and 45 years ago on September 1 attended this year’s welcome event for the new recruits.

Choosing the right company for an apprenticeship is an important decision for young people. For 28 boys and girls, the choice was Doppelmayr. On September 1, 2022, they completed their first day as employees at Wolfurt. Gerhard Gassner, managing director of Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH, welcomed the youngsters: “Our highly trained professionals and experts create sustainable mobility solutions around the entire world with ropeway installations. Apprenticeships form an important building block for these activities. We are delighted to see 28 young talents starting their training with us this year and therefore helping the shape the mobility of the future.”

Career with apprenticeship
Many long-standing employees at Doppelmayr began their working lives in exactly the same way. This year, two of them were present to welcome the latest generation. Martin Sandholzer is one of them. He began an apprenticeship as machine tool fitter 25 years ago, which he completed in 2001. His career path then led him via second-chance education to a part-time course in business administration at Dornbirn University of Applied Sciences. Today, he heads the human resources department at Doppelmayr. Karl-Heinz Zündel, who enjoys a long and successful management role in the areas of manufacturing and logistics, is also a former Doppelmayr apprentice. This year, he celebrates 45 years with the company and still likes to look back on his early days.

Exciting insights at taster days
Job taster days are extremely valuable for both the apprentices and the company. They give apprentices the opportunity to get to know the operation, the instructors and the activities involved. “At the job taster days, we get a good sense of which candidates have the Doppelmayr spirit and are the right fit for us,” says Klaus Schwarz, training manager at Doppelmayr in Wolfurt.

Doppelmayr will again be taking on apprentices for next year. Anyone interested in starting their training with Doppelmayr can contact the apprentice training department by telephone on +43 5574 604 1052 or by email: lehre@doppelmayr.com.
