The financial year 2015/2016 was a very successful one for the Doppelmayr Group. In comparison with the previous year, the company increased its annual sales revenues by 5% to 834 million euros. For the global market leader in ropeway engineering, this is the second-highest level of sales revenues ever achieved in the company’s history. Flagship projects and major contracts around the globe are reflected in the balance sheet. The introduction of the new D-Line product line was also a resounding success. Headcount was further increased, with the Doppelmayr Group currently employing 2,673 people worldwide – 127 more than in the previous year.

Innovative projects with future-oriented partners

Once again, the Doppelmayr Group’s customers proved their pioneering spirit and their enthusiasm for innovative ropeway solutions in the financial year 2015/2016. With the D-Line, the Doppelmayr Group achieved an important milestone and welcomes passengers to a first-class ride experience. The design and function of all components were re-engineered and improved, resulting in further comfort enhancements for passengers and ropeway operators alike. The Kirchenkar lift in Hochgurgl was the first D-Line gondola lift to go into service, with several others due to follow in 2016.

In December 2015, the Doppelmayr Group made it possible for 3S lifts to incorporate a curve for the first time. For the Penken lift in Mayrhofen, the company designed an innovative curve tower with an axis angle of 6.5°. Other features implemented on this installation are the Easy Boarding concept and WLAN in all the cabins.

On the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun, the combination lift Gletscherjet 3 and the gondola lift Gletscherjet 4 are achieving record passenger numbers. In the first five months of operation, these two installations carried almost three million guests in the utmost comfort – a record barely matched by any other winter ropeway. The two installations are linked by means of a special system for through operation in the intermediate station. The 10-passenger cabins on the combination lift travel on through to the top station of the Gletscherjet 4, while the chairs continue to circulate on the Gletscherjet 3.

Major international projects

Ropeways are currently enjoying great popularity in Vietnam, particularly in the tourism sector. The Ha Long Queen Cable Car crosses the world-famous Ha Long Bay and incorporates the world’s tallest ropeway tower with a height of 188.88 meters as well as the two biggest cabins, each of which carries 230 passengers. Since April, it has also been possible to reach the Fansipan, which ranks as Vietnam’s tallest peak, by ropeway. Passengers on the 6,326-meter-long Fansipan Legend 3S lift climb a vertical height of 1,410 meters during the trip, which barely takes 15 minutes.

Doppelmayr Cable Car completed an automated people mover at Doha’s new international airport. The twin-track Cable Liner Shuttle with a route length of 500 meters and a travel speed of 12.5 m/s (= 45 km/h) links the terminal building with the gates – the cars run above the check-in desks inside the airport building.

In the financial year 2015/2016, the Doppelmayr Group completed a RopeCon installation in Mexico. This serves as a transport solution between the gold ore pit El Limón and the processing plant at the base. The new RopeCon descends just under 400 vertical meters over a length of 1.3 km with just one tower, and carries 1,000 tons of gold ore an hour.

Good prospects for 2017

Once again, several exciting projects are currently under construction – both at national and international level. The Arlberg connection with four new gondola lifts, additional lines in the world’s biggest urban ropeway network in Bolivia, and the next world-record ropeway on Hon Thom in Vietnam as well as projects for the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea are already nearing completion. The first D-Line chairlift will enthrall guests in the 2016/2017 winter season. Another project which is fast approaching completion is the construction of the new administration building at the company’s Hohe Brücke site.

Over the past year, the Doppelmayr Group has invested a great deal in development and again unveiled several innovations. In addition to the D-Line, the control system has also been completely redesigned. Doppelmayr Connect will go into service for the first time this winter and is destined to set new benchmarks. With these development steps and first-class products, the company is well-equipped for the future.
