The next Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2022. A series of new ropeways is to be built for the infrastructure at the Olympic venues. For Yanqing National Alpine Ski Center, where the alpine skiing competitions will take place, Doppelmayr has been awarded the contracts for all the new lift installations to date – nine in total. The agreement was signed in Beijing on April 8, 2018 in the presence of Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.

Yanqing lies 74 kilometers northwest of central Beijing and is one of three venues that will host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. It is also the location of the Alpine Center, where the alpine skiing, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events are to take place. When it comes to developing the infrastructure, the Olympic Games is again placing its trust in Doppelmayr. By fall 2019, the world market leader is to build nine ropeway installations in Yanqing: five detachable 8-passenger gondola lifts, two detachable 6-seater chairlifts with bubbles and two fixed-grip quad chairlifts. This means Doppelmayr has won the invitations to tender for all nine lift installations so far envisaged for Yanqing.

Other projects scheduled for the Winter Olympics in Yanqing include a direct high-speed rail link to Beijing as well as numerous amenities such as the Olympic Village and the Media Center to facilitate optimal international reporting.

The agreement covering the ropeway contracts was signed on April 8, 2018 in the presence of Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. “For Doppelmayr, the contract award for the 2022 Winter Olympics and the renewed trust placed in our products are fantastic. We are delighted that we have again been given the opportunity to put our performance to the test for this major sporting event,” said Alexander Klimmer, executive sales director of Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH, at the signing ceremony.

In addition to Yanqing, Zhangjiakou and Beijing itself will also be hosting Olympic competitions and celebrations.
